Deeply in Love

A colossal wave curls across the massive canvas like a lover’s embrace…dark, powerful, alive…its crest breaking into a luminous, glowing blue portal that feels like the very heart of the ocean revealed. Nestled inside that radiant curve, two ancient sea turtles glide in perfect harmony, one mid-journey, the other resting near the sunlit reef below. The water shimmers from deep indigo to electric turquoise, while the seabed pulses with every colorof life. Gold, emerald, coral, and sapphire… maybe 100 layers of paint applied over eight months… painted with the same wild energy that only the Pacific can inspire.
This is not just a seascape. It is the moment I fell completely, helplessly in love with the sea all over again. I have seen this view of turtles here, On Maui at Ho’okipa beach park. The waves are huge here sometimes. I like the contrast of its fury, its tenderness, its fragile perfection. Every brushstroke carries that feeling: the roar of the wave, the quiet wisdom of the honu, the way light bends and dances when you’re suspended between worlds.
Finished in my Maui studio, propped on cinder blocks, surrounded by paint-splattered floors and half-empty tubes of cerulean and phthalo. This is the largest piece I’ve ever created, and it still takes my breath away every time I walk past it.
If you’ve ever stood in the ocean and felt your heart crack open with gratitude… this painting is for you.
