Abundance

In Hawaii (and so many other places), it’s possible to live on coconuts alone. For me they have always been the ultimate symbol of sustenance and therefore true abundance.
I remember a conversation with a friend who was also close to a billionaire. We were joking about what to get this man for his birthday since he already owned everything money could buy. My friend said, “I have one thing you will never have.” I asked what it was. He answered simply: “Enough. I have enough. Our friend will never have enough.”
Years later I was lying in a hospital bed with stage-four cancer. In that moment I realized something that changed everything: if I could just keep loving, I was happy. I didn’t need anything else. My choice to love was enough. That was abundance. I knew that as long as I was breathing and choosing love, a sense of great fortune surrounded me.
This painting is that realization made visible … an explosion of life force bursting from the heart of a coconut palm. Thick, vibrant strokes of green, gold, purple, and fiery red surge outward like the tree itself is celebrating its own abundance. The fronds radiate energy, dripping with color and light, as if the very act of growing is an act of pure generosity.
“Abundance” is not about having more.
It is the deep knowing that what we already are is enough.
It is the painting of a man who learned in the face of death that the greatest wealth is the willingness to keep loving.
